IT ONLY TAKES A FEW STEPS

  1. Domain Name and Hosting
  2. WordPress installation
  3. Personalize it!

I had a lot of nights of thinking when I was choosing my domain, all I knew is that it had to include the word ‘blue’ in it.   It also had to be a message of something coming and transforming our way of thinking about food and health overall, sort of like a, well, a wave, and so bluelightwave.com was born. Once you have come up with a few possible names, go to Bluehost, here you can check if the domain you have in mind has already been taken.  Bluehost gives you some alternatives you can choose from if this is the case.

STEP 1 DOMAIN NAME and HOSTING

Go to Bluehost and click on “get started now” button, this will take you to choosing a plan.

I chose ‘plus’ at the time of signup for the little extras, I paid one lump sum instead of monthly, it save me some money.

Once you have decided on which plan you want, click on ‘select’ and you will be on your way to creating your new domain.  Enter the domain name you have come up with under the ‘new domain’ box and go to the next step for package information.

Bluehost does not only provides domains but it is also great for hosting your domain.  What does this mean? In order for your domain name (your website/blog name) to show on the world wide web (one was the last time you actually read that!), aka ‘web’ or ‘internet’, it needs to be on a host, in this case bluehost. Seems they give you domain name for free if you host your domain name with them. Neat!

STEP 2 INSTALLING WORDPRESS

So you have signup with Bluehost and now have your domain and visible on the internet! yay! what is next?? you might wonder… well, now you   need to install you blogging software, why? so you can start blogging ASAP! Bluehost makes it easier for you to do this.  It is a straight forward process.

Log into your bluehost account, you should’ve received an email from them already with your domain name and login information, go to the “Website” section.  Click on the “W”, which is the logo for WordPress, to start the installation of WordPress

You have the option for installing it yourself for free or let bluest do it for you, I did it myself and was very straight forward, but you have options.

After clicking “Install” you will have to select your thought out awesome domain name and then click on “Check Domain”, this will take a few seconds.  Your last step would be to check the terms and conditions box and click on the “Install Now” button and you are on your way!

Once installation is complete make note of your Login URL, Username, Password and Login URL since you will be needing this information when you first log into your account.  You should also receive an email with this information.

Open another browser window and type in the noted Login URL from the previous step, should be something like www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin.  You will see a login screen similar to the one below.  Enter the information requested, press “Log In”…wait a few seconds and you will be at the brain behind your website/blog, the Dashboard.

STEP 3 PERSONALIZE IT!

Welcome to the world of blogging!!! yay! Time to play around with themes and make it to your liking.

When I first got to this step I was a little confused about where to go next.  The first step would be to install a theme from the dashboard, but from my learning experience I recommend for you to get familiar with WordPress and how to use it first. WordPress.org has excellent support and tips, start there.

Once you are able to navigate around the Dashboard you can start letting that creative side of you explode and start designing the best blog/website possible. Welcome and have fun!

Let me know how it goes!
